Michael Jackson, Jay-Z are MTV's "Men of the Year"

The late King of Pop Michael Jackson has been name "Male Artist of the Year" by MTV News, while Jay-Z takes the runner-up spot.

It's been quite a year for the music business, but the passing of one of pop music's most iconic stars was the biggest news story of the year.

After Jackson's death his albums sales skyrocketed to over 5 million, making him the best-selling artist of the year, (yes, even over Taylor Swift).

Jay had one of the biggest years of his career in 2009, scoring multiple hit singles including the current chart-topper "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys.

The top female artists of the year were Lady Gaga (#1) and Swift (#2). Kind of predictable right?
