Chart Chat
While legal digital music downloading is still booming, physical album sales are the worst they've ever been.
As mentioned earlier, the new #1 album this week sold 107,000. (Thank you Demi Lovato)
This pales in comparison to the heyday of monster album sales, roughly dating between 1997 to 2000. During this time, it wasn't uncommon for MULTIPLE albums to sell over 10 million copies in one year.
In 1999 the three best selling albums all went diamond (10 million in sales or more) setting the standards for superstar albums. These artists were Santana, Backstreet Boys, and of course, Britney Spears.
Will the music business figure out a way to revive the dying industry, or have we seen the last of the 10 million selling album?

Measuring music in album sales may be a thing of the past, but the innovator who can find the next new way to become mega-huge overnight, there's your artist.
