Underwood Collects 10th #1 Single

This woman cannot be stopped. Seriously.

American Idol alum and country superstar Carrie Underwood scored her 10th #1 country this week, as "Undo It" rises to the top spot. This is the third chart topper from her most recent album Play On, and according to billboard.com Underwood ties Reba McEntire for the most chart leaders among women since the survey adopted Nielsen BDS-monitored airplay data as of Jan. 20, 1990.

Wow!

I think it's safe to say that Carrie is the most successful AI winner ever! Although I do love my Kelly Clarkson, Underwood has sold more records, even if she is not as widely known in the pop music world.

Congrats!!

Shortie I'ma Tell You This Once You're Tha Illest

You've probably heard her rhyming on tracks with Ludacris and Usher, and now Queens pint sized rapper Nicki Minaj is ready to blow up as the freshest female rapper to hit the scene in years.

Minaj is garnering mainstream success with her first single "Your Love" which has been sitting on top of the rap charts for weeks, and is a top 20 pop hit as well. She's the first female rap artist to hit #1 in 7 years, (come back Missy, please!!!) and gives the male-dominated rap world a much needed shot of estrogen.
Check out Minaj's "Your Love" and let More Than Musiq know whether you think she can be the next Missy, Lil Kim, or Eve?

Emmy Predictions Part 3

Alright folks, here's part 3 of More Than Musiq's Emmy predictions. This week we take a look at the drama queens, as well as outstanding drama series. And awayyy we go

Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series:

Julianna Margulies (The Good Wife)

Mariska Hargitay (Special Victims Unit)

Glenn Close (Damages)

Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)

January Jones (Mad Men)

Connie Britton (Friday Night Lights)

Winner: Margulies has pretty much got this one in the bag, after having already wona Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her role as the wife of a politician (played by Chris Noth) caught in a scandal. And everyone always loves an actor who wins for a second solid role (she took home an Emmy for her work in ER).

Who Could Upset: I'd love to see the stunning January Jones pull a surprise win in this category. Her portrayal of Don Draper's bitter ex is equal parts ice cold queen and vulnerable little girl.

Outstanding Drama Series:

Lost

Breaking Bad

Dexter

Mad Men

True Blood

The Good Wife

Winner: Mad Men. The critical darling just scored its best ratings ever for the season 4 premiere, with Don Draper having to rebuild his career and fix his personal life. It's a smart show, with arguably the strongest ensemble cast on television.

Who Could Upset: I would be happy to see True Blood or Dexter take this one. True Blood's pure outrageous nature makes it unlike anything else on TV, while the character Dexter (played by Emmy worthy Michael C. Hall) truly came into his own in the last season, trying to search within for what's left of his humanity. Both shows are addictive.

I Love Being Sucker Punched

The trailer for the March 2011 movie Sucker Punch has hit the web, and it looks ridiculously awesome!!

It's got hot babes kicking ass in an asylum, what more could you ask for? Well, hot men kicking ass would also be nice...

The film was hyped big time at Comic-Con over the weekend, as well and was also featured in Entertainment Weekly Magazine. It stars a number of young actresses, including Vanessa Hudgens.

Take a look at the trailer and see the badass-ness for yourself!

Love The Way This Sounds

I don't think I've liked an Eminem song in probably 5 years (Lose Yourself was super epic and I joined the masses with that one), but his latest duet with Rihanna has completely got me back into the Slim Shady world.

"Love the way you Lie" is the best rap/sung duet this year, (that's saying a lot, considering Jay-Z and Alicia Keys "Empire State of Mind" was such a knockout), and I simply just CANNOT stop listening to it!

Eminem has always been a fierce lyricist, but he's been missing some of his swagger and attitude before his latest album Recovery came out last month. The album has catapulted him back to superstardom, as it sits at #1 for the 4Th consecutive week, and "Love the way you Lie" replaces Katy Perry's "California Gurls" as the #1 song in the country.

I have to say though, the reason why this song is so huge is thanks largely in part to Rihanna. As the ultimate hook girl, Rihanna has supplied some of the best choruses to some rap/sung classics (T.I.'s "Live Your Life", Jay-Z's "Run This Town", etc.)

If RiRi wasn't on this track it would definitely not be as popular. It happens to be her 7Th #1 single since 2005, the most out of any artist int that span of time.

If you haven't heard the song, take a listen to "Love the way you Lie"

Old Guys are Still Raking in the Dough

Forbes has released their annual list of the top earning acts in music, and it's no surprise that veteran rock band U2 top the list. Because of their massive 2009 tour the band was able to pull in a whopping $130 million over the past year.
Right behind the Irish supergroup is another old-guy's-past-their-prime band AC/DC, who earned $114 million from their Black Ice tour. And yet another old dude comes in at #4 this year, as Bruce Springsteen earned $70 million.

There was some fresh young blood in the top 5, however, as Beyonce came in at #3 with a reported $87 million. The Beyonce empire continues to grow with new music, fashion, and sponsorship deals that earn the diva more than her hubby Jay-Z.

And our girl BRITNEY SPEARS rounds out the top 5, earning $64 million over the past year, thanks in part to her sold out comeback tour and a #1 album, Circus.

Emmy Predictions Part 2

Today More Than Musiq looks at two big categories, Outstanding Performance Actor in a Comedy and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:

Chris Colfer (Glee)

Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother)

Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)

Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men)

Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family)

Ty Burrell (Modern Family)

Winner: This might be one of the most interesting categories at this year's Emmy Awards. four of the nominees are newcomers, while two (Cryer and NPH) have been nominated (with Cryer winning last year) before. I think that after the stellar last year Neil Patrick Harris has had, the trophy will go to him. Everyone loves a child star who rises above to become an even become real star.

Who Could Upset: I would FREAK out if this happened, (and I have a feeling it could), if Chris Colfer won this award. Although all the Modern Family men had a huge breakout year, I think unfortunately they'll just cancel each other out when voters make their choice. Colfer broke out in Glee and has become one of the most loved characters on the show. His performance goes well beyond his young age, combining brass sassy-ness but intense vulnerability all at the same time. My vote (if I had one) would go to him.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:

Jane Lynch (Glee)

Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)

Jane Krakowski (30 Rock)

Julie Bowen (Modern Family)

Sofia Vergara (Modern Family)

Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men)

Winner: No contest. Jane Lynch has OWNED this category ever since her name was announced. As the ruthless Sue Sylvester on Glee no one has had such a massive breakout year than Lynch. She's been making people laugh for years in movies like 40 Year-Old Virgin and Best in Show, and now it's her time to shine. If she doesn't win this then I'm shaving my head and beating a paparazzi car with my umbrella.

Who Could Upset: You shut your mouth when you're talking to me.

Return to Fantasia

It's been a while since American Idol alum Fantasia has made a splash on the charts, but after her venture into reality television was kind of a bust, she's back to doing what she does best - Singing mid-tempo R&B slow jams about love and loss.

Her latest single single "Bittersweet" broke into the top 10 on the R&B singles chart, and also debuted on the Hot 100 as well, giving Fantasia the much needed career boost after being absent from the charts for almost 3 years.

"Bittersweet" is not groundbreaking, but Fantasia can still sing better than 90% of the people out there over saturating themselves with auto-tune, and this track reminds us as to why she won AI in the first place.

Take a listen to "Bittersweet" and judge for yourself.

Katy Perry Still Dominating The Summer

Katy Perry's unstoppable hit "California Gurls" continues it stay at #1 for a 6th week on the Hot 100, beating out competitors Eminem and Rihanna, who's collabo "Love the Way You Lie" stays put at #2.

One the biggest movers this week is Enrique Iglesias' comeback single "I Like It." As More Than Musiq predicted, the single skyrockets into the top 10, coming in at #8 this week.

Besides that, there are no big moves in the top 10 this week. Here's a look at the 10 biggest songs in the country right now:

1. Katy Perry "California Gurls"

2. Eminem Featuring Rihanna "Love the way you Lie"

3. B.O.B. Featuring Hayley Williams "Airplanes"

4. Usher "OMG"

5. Travie McCoy Featuring Bruno Mars "Billionaire"

6. Taio Cruz "Dynamite"

7. Mike Posner "Cooler than Me"

8. Enrique Iglesias "I Like It"

9. Drake "Find Your Love"

10. Jason DeRulo "Ridin' Solo"

It's CONFIRMED: Britney Tribute Episode on GLEE

This is the BEST news I've heard all week!

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that he is writing a Britney Spears episode for the next season of the show!

YES!

This will probably be a HUGE episode, and bring in its biggest ratings ever! They have such a vast catalogue to choose from, I wonder what songs they are going to choose!?!?!!

It's Emmy Time!!

As many of you probably know, the Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday, and there has been a lot of buzz going around Hollywood- Who was snubbed? What surprises were there?

For the next month and a half leading up to the show, More Than Musiq will offer some predictions in the major categories this year.

If you haven't seen the nominees yet, check it out at EW.com. If you have seen them, check out my predictions for some of the big categories (please note: I'm a HUGE Glee fan...but I try to be unbiased.)

Here we go:

Outstanding Comedy Series

-Glee
-Modern Family
-Curb Your Enthusiasm
-Nurse Jackie
-30 Rock
-The Office

Winner - 30 Rock. The Tina Fey comedy has been consistent for years, and is always an Emmy favorite. Fey has cemented herself as a comedy icon, so it will be hard to topple this critical giant.

Who Could Upset- Modern Family was one of the breakout comedies of the year, and earned multiple nominations for the actors in the show. If I were to base my predictions on the first half of the first season, I would totally go for Glee, but the second half of the season fell short of expectations (although I still loved it)

Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series

-Lea Michelle (Glee)
-Tina Fey (30 Rock)
-Toni Collette (The United States of Tara)
-Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine)
-Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie)
-Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation)

Winner - Toni Collette. She took home the same prize last year, although most people hadn't even heard of her show. Tina Fey has won so many Emmys now no one can keep track, and Edie Falco's fantastic role in Nurse Jackie runs the drama line a little too closely for voters to actually consider her a comedy contender.

Who Could Upset - The fabulous Amy Poehler found her footing after a shaky season 1, but Parks has really upped its game, and so has the lead actress. Poehler's character is funny, but sincere, dim-witted, but kind hearted, and could be the black sheep to win this year.

Check This Off The List

Working in NYC has its benefits, and today I got to meet super-talented singer Charice!!!

More Than Musiq blogged about the 19-year-old belter in January, and she made an appearance at my work today to sing and sign autographs!

Charice was discovered via Youtube and Oprah, and recently saw her debut album hit the top 10. But there's even bigger news surrounding this rising star, because she is the newest cast member for the next season of GLEE!!

Charice will play the foreign exchange student who competes with Lea Michelle's character for who's got the best set of pipes.

CAN'T WAIT

Recovery Breezes Past 1 Million

The Real Slim Shady, AKA Eminem, continues his resurgence on the album charts, as his latest disc Recovery sold another 313,000 copies to stay at #1.

The disc has now surpassed 1.1 million copies sold in just two week, the fastest album to do that since Susan Boyle's mega-hit I Dreamed a Dream.

Em's on the way to having the biggest album of the year, proving that he still has not lost his touch as one of the biggest recording artists of the last decade.

Here's a rundown of the top 10 albums this week:

1. Eminem Recovery (313,000)

2. Drake Thank Me Later (105,000)

3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (65,000)

4. The Dream Love King (58,000)

5. Now 34 (45,000)

6. Justin Beiber My World 2.0 (41,000)

7. 3OH3 Streets of Gold (41,000)

8. Jack Johnson To The Sea (35,000)

9. Miley Cyrus Can't Be Tamed (32,000)

10. Lady Antebellum Need You Now (30,000)

New Poll for Those Suummmerrrr...Nighh heightttssssss

...The title of this entry was an ode to Grease...i hope you all know.

Anyhoo, there's a new poll today! One of the best ways to beat the scorching heat during the summer is to blast your stereos and head to the beach, which is why More Than Musiq is asking you what's your Favorite Song of the Summer so far!

Here are your choices:

Katy Perry "California Gurls" - The song continues to dominate radio and will most likely be one of the biggest songs of the year.

Enrique Iglesias is back in action with his hot new single "I Like It", featuring Pitbull. Expect this song to heat up the summer months even more.

Drake "Find Your Love" - The first hit single off of his full-length debut album that debuted at #1 last month, and should find itself comfortably sitting at the top of the charts for months.

Travie McCoy "Billionaire" - The former front man for Gym Class Heroes finds a hit as a solo star, with the help of the new hook-boy Bruno Mars.

Well there you have it! Go vote, and try not to let the heat affect your judgement!

Living Legend You Can Look But Don't Touch

Pop Queen Britney Spears graces the August cover of Cosmopolitan Magazine, looking fierce and fab!!

Spears has been laying low after her hugely successful professional year in 2009, where she scored multiple hit singles, one of the biggest tours of the year, and a whole new slew of fans.

In the issue, Spears talks about her relationship with Jason Trawick, and how she dreads having the sex talk with her kids in the future!

Can't wait to read it!!

P.S. - Her body looks amazing...but doesn't it look like her head was just pasted onto someone else's body? Just saying...

I Like It...A Lot

Enrique Iglesias hasn't had a top 40 hit on the pop charts in years...until this summer!

His latest song with Pitbull "I Like It" has hit the top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100, and is definitely gearing up to be one of the songs of summer.

It's nothing groundbreaking - auto-tuned synth beats with Enrique singing about dancing and women...but who cares about artistic ability. When it's 96 degrees out it's time to get down!!

Check out the song and video for "I Like It".

Everyone Wants a Piece of the Glee Pie

Entertainment Weekly reports that Javier Bardem is the latest celeb to appear in the hit Fox series Glee. Bardem will apparantly appear next season, and 'rock out' with Artie.

Sweet...

Of all the actors and celebs in the world, why him? Bardem is a great actor, but there are way more people who would be a better fit for the show. Does he even sing?

I guess it doesn't matter, as long as there's a BRITNEY episode next season, all is good in the world.

Spencer Be Gone

The More Than Musiq Poll has officially closed, and YOU have voted Spencer Pratt as the celebrity you'd most want to cast off to a deserted island!

This might be the most unsurprising poll result ever, since most people can't STAND this guy. Pratt garnered 57% of the votes, way ahead of the #2 most annoying celebrity, which, coincidentally, is Heidi Montag! The surgically enhance Montag snagged 21% of the votes.

Perhaps they can both be cast of to a deserted island and just be their crazy selves, all alone...away from us!

Stay tuned for another More Than Musiq poll!!

Happy Holiday!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND!!!!

Lusting for Vampires Continues

As all of you know, or SHOULD know, Eclipse premiered on Wednesday night. The third installment of the Twilight series has been getting more favorable reviews than the two previous films, and judging by box office receipts so far, fans are still thirsting for more!

Eclipse broke the one day record, grossing $68.5 million on Wednesday, and now Entertainment Weekly is predicting that it might make $200 MILLION by the end of the weekend.

That's bonkers!

I have yet to see the movie (I'm going tomorrow), but I am excited to not only see it, but observe the flocks of fans that are sure to pack cinemas this weekend.

Apparently Everyone Likes California Gurls

Katy Perry continues to dominate the summer with her anthem "California Gurls." The track has been sitting at #1 in the USA AND the world, and this week breaks the one week digital sales record for a single.

United World Chart announced today that Perry's song had sold 556,000 copies this week, breaking Madonna's record she set with her single "Hung Up," back in 2005.

That's huge!! The song is quickly becoming one of the biggest digital songs in history, and it's a perfect lead up to the release of Perry's new album Teenage Dream.

Congrats!

It's The Summa Time!

EW has just released their Best of Summer issue, with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg gracing the cover to promote their new film The Other Guys.

More Than Musiq blogged a while back about the movie, and how it could seriously rejuvinated Ferrell's career, because it looks awesome!!

Personally, I want to see it. I think Ferrell and Wahlberg will make a funny dynamic duo!

Reminder!!

Today is the last day to vote on the More Than Musiq poll!!!

What celeb would you want to cast off to a deserted island? Heidi? Spencer? Paula? Tom? Perez!?

I know who I would pick!

GO VOTE!!

There's a New Biatch on the Upper East Side

Entertainment Weekly reports that actress Katie Cassidy is joining the cast of Gossip Girl for next season, and apparantly stirring up some drama with Leighton Meester's Blaire!

Yes! Love the bitchy cat fights!

It's rumored that Cassidy's character will hook up with Chace Crawford's Nate, and cause a lot of commotion with all the Manhattan elite!

Sounds devilishly fantastic!

Katie Cassidy is none other than former teen idol David Cassidy's daughter. She's made a name for herself as a legit actress, appearing in Melrose Place, as well as movies like Taken and Click.

Looks like she's on her way to become a pretty big name!
