Bridesmaids Delivers the Laughs (and the $$)

If you didn't have time to go see the new Kristen Wiig/Maya Rudolf comedy Bridesmaids this weekend, get up off the couch, grab your keys, and GO.

The female-ensemble lead cast deliver huge laughs, and is one of the funniest comedies to come out this year. And it seems that audiences approve, since the film grossed $24 million at the box office this weekend.

It's great to see a comedy starring tons of funny women, dealing with not just funny situations but also the ins and outs of relationships between women.

This is Kristen Wiig's breakout role, and boy does she deliver. The SNL funny woman doesn't carry the film (there are tons of hilarious characters, including Melissa McCarthy who steals a lot of the scenes as the, um, quirky Megan), but her hilarious yet vulnerable performance is sure to help catapult her to the Amy Poehler-Tina Fey stratosphere.

Poll Results: Love You Some Modern Fam

The polls are officially closed, and it when it comes to your favorite comedy on television, there's a clear winner:

Modern Family!

The Emmy winning sitcom garnered 50% of the votes, edging out How I Met Your Mother and Glee who came in a close 2nd and 3rd.

And I must agree with the results, because Modern Fam is absolutely one of the funniest shows to come along in years! The entire ensemble is hilarious, with one of the best group of young actors (Rico Rodriguez, Noland Gould, Ariel Winter, and the lovely Sarah Highland) ever!

The show has already picked up 6 Emmy Awards, and don't expect it to slow down any time soon (last week's episode was HILARIOUS).

Will Ferrell Finally Has A Hit Movie

It's been a while, but it has finally happened.

Will Ferrell is starring in a hit movie again! The funny man's new flick The Other Guys co-starring Mark Wahlberg took the top spot at the Box Office this weekend with a reported $35.6 million.

I was starting to worry there that Mr. Ron Burgundy might not be able to pull the audiences in like he used to, but this proves that he's still got it!

Inception was pushed to #2 after three solid weeks on top and a total gross $228 million, becoming the 6th highest grossing film of the year so far.

It's Emmy Time!!

As many of you probably know, the Emmy Award nominations were announced yesterday, and there has been a lot of buzz going around Hollywood- Who was snubbed? What surprises were there?

For the next month and a half leading up to the show, More Than Musiq will offer some predictions in the major categories this year.

If you haven't seen the nominees yet, check it out at EW.com. If you have seen them, check out my predictions for some of the big categories (please note: I'm a HUGE Glee fan...but I try to be unbiased.)

Here we go:

Outstanding Comedy Series

Winner - 30 Rock. The Tina Fey comedy has been consistent for years, and is always an Emmy favorite. Fey has cemented herself as a comedy icon, so it will be hard to topple this critical giant.

Who Could Upset- Modern Family was one of the breakout comedies of the year, and earned multiple nominations for the actors in the show. If I were to base my predictions on the first half of the first season, I would totally go for Glee, but the second half of the season fell short of expectations (although I still loved it)

Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series

-Lea Michelle (Glee)

-Tina Fey (30 Rock)

-Toni Collette (The United States of Tara)

-Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine)

-Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie)

-Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation)

Winner - Toni Collette. She took home the same prize last year, although most people hadn't even heard of her show. Tina Fey has won so many Emmys now no one can keep track, and Edie Falco's fantastic role in Nurse Jackie runs the drama line a little too closely for voters to actually consider her a comedy contender.

Who Could Upset - The fabulous Amy Poehler found her footing after a shaky season 1, but Parks has really upped its game, and so has the lead actress. Poehler's character is funny, but sincere, dim-witted, but kind hearted, and could be the black sheep to win this year.

OMG is Will Ferrell Funny Again!?!

Will Ferrell has been in some GOD AWFUL SHITTY movies lately. Remember Land of the Lost? Gag.

It's been a while since Ferrell has actually made anybody laugh, but his upcoming flick with smokin' hottie Mark Wahlberg looks promising.

The Other Guys follows Ferrell and Wahlberg as wimpy cops who never leave the office. But they get caught up in this huge case and hilarity obviously ensues.

Critics often underestimate Wahlberg's comedic timing, and in this preview it looks like he hits his mark every time.

Funniest Couple of the Year

Steve Carell & Tina Fey grace the latest cover of Entertainment Weekly, to promote their upcoming comedy "Date Night."

Fey and Carell are two of the funniest people on primetime, but I have to say that this film looks like it could either be pretty good, or horrendously shitty!

Tina Fey's movies usually always deliver, but Carell has been known to hit and miss over the past.

Scaring People is Super Fun

So most of my friends are aware that I enjoy scaring people occasionally, and it gives me great pleasure when someone gets REALLY scared.

That's why I love Ellen Degeneres even more after watching her scare celebrities on her show.

What's great about Ellen scaring the likes of Taylor Swift, David Spade, Kellie Pickler, Christina Applegate is the fact that these celebs become more human; they'll shit their pants just like everyone else if a fake tree on set comes alive and sneaks up behind them.

My two favorites scares are when Ellen hides in the bathroom and screams when Swift comes in, and when a PETRIFYING clown sneaks up to Kellie Pickler.

Sucks to Lose a Bet When You're Famous

Kiefer Sutherland showed up to the David Letterman Show last night dressed in a heinous green dress, leaving the audience to wonder if this was a new plot twist in 24?

Of course it isn't! Sutherland actually lost a bet with a friend over the weekend, when he said the New England Patriots were going to win in the playoffs.

Unfortunately they didn't, and he had to wear this crazy-ass dress on national TV!!

Bullock's $300 Million Year

Sandra Bullock graces the new cover of Entertainment Weekly, and it's much deserved!

The funny lady has had a huge year, with two blockbuster films The Proposal and the Blind Side earning a combined $300 million (according to EW).

Bullock has been making movies for decades, and to have the biggest year of her career almost 20 years in the biz must be a good feeling!

Congrats on all the success, and yes, we forgive you for All About Steve.

Happy Birthday Superstar!

A very happy birthday goes out to SNL alum Molly Shannon! The comedian turns 45 years-old today!

After leaving Saturday Night Live in 2001, Molly able to create a successful movie career, starring in such blockbusters as Evan Almighty, Taladega Nights, and Marie Antoinette. Her latest role has been the star in the NBC show Kath and Kim, which was unfortunately canceled at 17 episodes due to poor ratings.

Let's hope she'll land some more fun movie roles!

Big Idol News

Ellen Degeneres announced on her talk show that she will be replacing Paul Abdul as a judge on American Idol!!!!!!

YESSSSssssssssssSSSs

This is great news! Although Ellen has no musical background, her humor and sensitive nature will definitely go over well with contestants and fans alike!

And to be honest, it's not as if Paula was a musical genius either.

When I thought American Idol was done for, they pull a huge move like this and redeem themselves! Let's see how everything will pan out when the show premiers!

Daytime Emmy Awards: Big Upsets, No Viewers

While only 2.86 million people tuned in to watch the Daytime Emmy Awards this year, there were a couple big surprises when the winners were announced August 30th.

In a huge upset, Rachael Ray beat out daytime favorite Ellen Degeneres for Best Talk Show/Entertainment Catefory!! Whattttt?!

I don't really see how this is possible. I do love me some Rachael Ray but Ellen is the Queen of Talk, and is one of the funniest women in Hollywood!

The women of The View made history this year, with all of the hosts, Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd taking home the prize for Best Talk Show Host. Never before has an ensemble hosting team won this award before.

Sandler Back on Top

Adam Sandler's new dramady Funny People took the top spot at this weekend's box office with a reported $23.4 million in ticket sales.

While a good opening, it ranks among Sandler's lowest opening weekends for a movie ever, actually, THE lowest opening for a Sandler movie.

But seeing as it's not a typical out and out comedy, it was expected to gross around $25 million.

Harry and the gang are still hanging onto the #2 spot, with another $17.7 million brought in to the franchise. The film crosses the $255 million mark, and should be one of the biggest films of the year.

In Theaters This Weekend

Funny People, starring Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, and a slew of other well, funny people, and it's been getting rave reviews!

It's good to see Sandler in something other than a ridiculous child's movie (Bedtime Stories, ugh) and I predict it will do very well at the box office this weekend!

The film also stars Leslie Mann, the scene stealer in as Katherine Heigl's sister in Knocked Up, who also happens to be married to the director of the film, Judd Apatow.
