Grammy Predictions: Part 1
Today we kick off our Grammy Awards Prediction Segment, where we will pick one category each day to analyze discuss.
Today's category is Best New Artist, and here are the nominees:
Zac Brown Band, Keri Hilson, MGMT, Silversun Pickups, and The Ting Tings.
Now this is a very eclectic group of nominees, and since Lady Gaga was excluded from this category based on the fact that she was up for a Grammy last year, it's practically anyone's game.
Who Should Win:
MGMT. Rolling Stone Magazine named them one of the "Top 10 Artists to Watch" in 2008, and in 09' they broke out in a big way, with their electro-rock tinged songs like Time to Pretend and Kids.
Who Will Win:
Keri Hilson. She had a big commercial year with hits such as Knock You Down and Turn Me On, finally stepping out of the shadow of Timbaland's monster hit "The Way I Are", in which she was the hook girl. Voters will probably play it safe and vote for Hilson, based on her talent as a songwriter and vocalist. The Zac Brown Band are a talented country group, but it's rare for a country act to take home this award. As for the Ting Tings, I think that many people feel that they are too obscure to win, and as far the Silversun Pickups go, Who the F are they anyway??

MGMT gets my vote. But seriously, two postings? Is that really enough to force me to come on here (like I don't do it every day anyway)?
ReplyDeleteI think the Silversun Pickups should get this one, the singer's voice is unique and they don't sound like many other bands out there right now. And, I think they have staying power.
