Emmy Predictions

The Emmy Awards were announced on July 16th, and it's about time that MorethanMusiq make the official predictions of the winners.

Here are the picks for some of the main categories. (Pick is in bold.)

Outstanding Drama Series
- Big Love
- Breaking Bad
- Damages
- Dexter
- House
- Lost
- Mad Men

Big Love has never gotten the credit it deserves for being one the most groundbreaking and interesting shows on television. With Bill Paxton as polygamist Bill Henrickson, the show is riveting and pushes the boundaries in how we see and perceive marriage and normality in the US.

Outstanding Comedy Series
- 30 Rock
- Entourage
- Family Guy
- Flight of the Conchords
- How I Met Your Mother
- The Office
- Weeds

Although it's awesome that Family Guy was recognized with an overall Best Comedy Series nomination, instead of in the usual Best Animated Program, 30 Rock is still the funniest bleeping show on television. Tina Fey has a knack for writing the most awkwardly funny story lines and one liner quips for her character Liz Lemon. Alec Baldwin is also a hoot as her boss Jack Donahghy.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
- Simon Back (The Mentalist)
- Gabriel Byrne (In Treatment)
- Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad)
- Michael C. Hall (Dexter)
- Jon Hamm (Mad Men)
- Hugh Laurie (House)

Michael C. Hall has been nominated in the past, and this year he deserves to take the award home, with his portrayal of the serial killer with a set of high moral standards, Dexter Morgan. I think that actually anyone in this category has a shot, but I'd like to see someone other than Laurie win., as House is not a real favorite of mine

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
- Glenn Close (The Closer)
- Sally Field (Brothers and Sisters)
- Mariska Hargitay (Law and Order: SVU)
- Holly Hunter (Saving Grace)
- Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men)
- Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer)

Sedgwick deserves the trophy this year for playing the role of Leigh Johnson, an LA police detective in LA, who's sass and no b.s. attitude has garnered some of TNT's best ratings ever. She has tough competition from Sally Field though, who continues to be one of the most celebrated actresses of our time.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
- Alec Baldwin (30 Rock)
- Steve Carell (The Office)
- Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords)
- Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory)
- Tony Shaloub (Monk)
- Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men)

Sheen has been nominated 3 times before for his role as Charlie Harper, the slutty jingle/children song writer living with his twice divorced brother Alan, played by Jon Cryer. He is a TV Veteran, and deserves this win. Sheen has great comedic timing and his brothery banter with Cryer is hilarious.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
- Christina Applegate (Samantha Who)
- Toni Collette (United States of Tara)
- Tina Fey (30 Rock)
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus (The New Adventures of Old Christine)
- Mary-Louis Parker (Weeds)
- Sarah Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Project)

It's hard to compete with Fey, who nails the role of Liz Lemon, the neurotic head writer of TGS with Tracy Jordan. It also helps that she wrote a lot of the episodes as well. But don't be surprised if Dreyfus steals her thunder.
